Ala. Sen. Britt: No ‘Blank Check’ for Calif. Fire Aid

While the federal government must stand “firmly” with those affected by the California wildfires, Alabama Sen. Katie Britt says that lawmakers shouldn’t write a “blank check” for the Golden State’s recovery when assembling an aid package, either.

“I think what we need to be doing right now is standing firmly with the people of California, letting them know they have our prayers, they have our support and that we stand ready to be thoughtful about ways that we can help in making sure that they have the resources they need,” Britt said in an interview Tuesday with Politico, AL.com reported Wednesday.

“That being said, obviously you’re not just going to write a blank check,” she said. “We have to be judicious with our dollars, and I think that we certainly will be. But I think the people of California need to know that America stands with them, and certainly that’s the message that I plan to send.”
