Rep. Carlos Gimenez, R-Fla., told Newsmax on Friday that he’s a fan of Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, who was appointed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday to fill the vacancy created as Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., becomes Secretary of State.

“I love it,” Gimenez said on “National Report.” “Ashley Moody and I have been friends for a long time. She served as Attorney General of the state of Florida while I was the mayor of Miami Dade County. She’s fantastic. She’s a solid Republican. I think it’s a solid pick by the governor. She’s going to do a really good job in the Senate.”

Gimenez said he is excited for her to be sworn in, while also praising Rubio’s years of service to Florida.
